Housing trust funds are technically defined as "funds that are established by elected government bodies—at the city, county or state level—when a source or sources of public revenue are dedicated, by ordinance or law, to a distinct fund with the express and limited purpose of providing affordable housing". Ideally the funds are transferred automatically each and every year into the housing trust fund account providing a continuous stream of funding, without going through an appropriation or budgeting process. Ideally, the funds can be used only in accordance with the enabling legislation or ordinance establishing the fund, targeted to serve those housing needs that are most critical. But these ideals are not possible in every situation, legally or politically.

The Greenville Housing Fund was orginally established as a public-private partnership with the intent of becoming a local housing trust fund that is supported by public revenue sources from Greenville County and the City of Greenville. There are a variety of public revenue sources that may be used to support our local housing trust fund such as real estate transfer taxes, accomodations tax, impact fees, etc. GHF will continue to work with local government to help identify public revenue sources to sustain the local housing trust fund.  If you would like to join our campaign and become an advocate for affordable housing opportunities for modest income residents in our community please contact GHF

Donate Properties

The rising costs of real estate is quickly becoming a major barrier to the development of affordable housing in Greenville. One of our goals at GHF is to develop a land bank to acquire property that may be used to develop more workforce and affordable housing. If you or someone you know whould like to donate property for this purpose please contact GHF.
